Finally they are done. I was telling my wife, yesterday night, that no one had figured the final date (I must say that considering the delay in the static grass order and the varnishing accident, it was close to impossible to figure it). And she jumped on the mac to propose the date! Ok, she got the green guy. And yep, she cheated! Well I do not really care. To celebrate finishing the conquistadores, I am going to finish the Perry's tonight (APO !).
Miniatures (from foundry) are grouped in blisters :
Fin des conquistadores
I'll describe the Auberge Ludique in a future post.
Tonight, I've finished the conquistadores. One of the flags is inspired by this box illustration :
Here is the final result (the cannon is out of the picture. I'll take better ones tomorow).
I have also cleaned and glued those few miniatures for the lord of the ring :

Finally varnished for the auberge ludique con (this week end) :
I made good progress with the Perrys; only a few details are missing:
I tried to use some Devland Mud to repair the Conquistadors damaged in the varnishing accident. Finally it worked better with the Badab Black.

The varnish has gone white:
So, here it is, the second coat of varnish (which worked so well on some other miniatures) has gone white on the Conquistadors. I'm showing you 3 exemples. I tried to put a new coat on, with a brush this time (first was with a can), thinking that the solvent in the new coat would mix the two of them and make the white go away. It didn't work. If you have any miracle solution to my problem, tell me before I decide whether I am going to overpaint where it is white, or to just remove all the paint and do it again!"-T'as vu le grand bleu ?

"-Have you seen the deep blue?
- the movie?
- no, the thing behind you with many claws!

Perry :
I've taken the backpacks from the sprue, then cleaned them, then a coat of paint on the hidden side, and glued on the backs

Let's start with some old things I made the night before the JFJ, for the JFJ. These are "barriers" for Innsmouth.

Talking about Innsmouth, I received a great welcome last Weekend at Draveil (91210) from the local club : l'Hydre O'Mel (a member of this association gave me an hand on the participation game at the JFJ). I brought the Innsmouth table and we spent a nice day, which ended with animated and interesting discussions over a Kebab. Sadly, no one managed to take any pictures.

Speaking about conventions, there have been some "animated discussions" between the 2 associations organizing the Toutatis/Petites Guerres convention. In the end, it was in my opinion a positive thing, better than keeping the animosity to ourselves. It gave us a chance to know each other better as we are in 2 different communities (even if it is not visible at first sight): Participation games demonstrators on the one hand and tournament organisators/players on the other (this is a simplified vision, of course). Whatever, it seems that everything is OK now. And it is going to be a really great convention, in my opinion.

Before Toutatis, I'll go to Cannes. I've found a place to sleep. Come see me and let's have a chat!

And what about the contest? Tonight I've applied the second coat of varnish (mat) (picture before) :
I still have to make the 2 flags and the flocking. The thing is that I've ordered some very nice grass and I want to use it on them, so it may be rather longer before they are finished. Oh, and I feel lazy every time I think about those 2 flags...
Le napo, c'est long. Je l'ai déjà dit, je le redis et je le redirais. Ceci dit les figurines Perry continuent d'avancer :
Napoleonic painting is longterm. I've already said it, and I'll say it again. Anyway, the Perry Miniatures
keep going on :
I'm saving the officer and the drummer for last.
As all the projects are going to end soon, I've started a new load of miniatures for the Spartacus Army. After the very "strict" painting of the napoleonic miniatures, I'm going, as I said earlier, to do the reverse of SIABA and use a maximum of gladiator miniatures (or parts of miniatures). That doesn't mean that I won't have any roman equipment or no credible miniatures, it is just going to be a cool looking army (I hope). This is going to be painted random : I've put everything in a big box and I draw miniatures at random from it to clean and finally paint. Miniatures are from many different ranges and nations. None have been given any shield or weapon prior to the painting, I'll only give those at the end when I'll create the various units. Units that have not been fully decided so far, to have a very hetergenous army.
I m still waiting for the 60 Zorgls for Golgo Island that need to be painted before the auberge ludique convention... I ve been told they were posted : wait and see.
There is a lot of other stuff I would have loved to share with you, but it is really late : Time to sleep!)
Sur ce, DODO !
vendredi 30 janvier 2009
Allez hop !
Ok, let's jump to another subject (you don't want to know where we were in previous post). It's late so I'm going to make it short. Just one picture, the conquistadors (the Perry are advancing too, but I've mainly painted gold buttons on white jackets and the picture doesn't show it). They are close to being finished; I just need to add the pupils to the eyes, flock the base and varnish them.
Beside this, I did get Spartacus, for WAB.
I've checked it fast and I've read this wikipeda article :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Servile_War et quelques autres glanés ici et là.
and a few more material found here or there on the net.
"I also thought about dressing my gladiators in Roman armour and giving them
mostly Roman shields; but that is just dull! We all need a little fantasy."
I've decided pretty fast that even if I am going to use the list "Early revolt army", my army is not going to be very historical from a cosmetic pint of view. I want it to have some very hetergenous (?) troop types with a lot of gladiator equipment and many conversions. The heteroclite troups : ok, it's historical. The gladiatoral equipment is not : as soon as the revoltees did get their hands on the real stuff (Roman military equipment), they threw away their circus accessories! And you can understand why! But well, as my friend Simon told me earlier :
"I also thought about dressing my gladiators in Roman armour and giving them
mostly Roman shields; but that is just dull! We all need a little fantasy."

So, how did I come to be doing that army? Actually, it was one of the 3 or 4 armies I was wanting to do "one day" (especially after I've seen the Siaba's miniatures at his home). I hope to make a Dark Age one (not sure which nation) and an army with some of those Romans on camels with scale mails (I have no idea of the period, but I love those miniatures !). And then as I just finished painting Simon's gladiators (and a few for me), Siaba announced that he's hesitating between making a German, a Greek or a Spartacus army and that he's going to sell that last one if he doesn't make it! I offered to buy it and he answered that if he does it, I m going to paint it in 2 weeks and never play it and that it disgust him! At this vexation, I answered with the threat to Paint His Army Faster Than Him and start to make some compulsory orders. Now that I've calmed myself down a bit, I understand that he would have never sold it. It's still possible that I may paint my army faster than him, but I do not really care. I now hope that we re going to motivate each other and share on the subject (nb : I now know that he want to make an historic one, so the comparison may be interresting). The aim now is that we both finish our armies and find 2 Roman adversaries to have a big battle with our armies on the same side... or just him and I for a fratricidal fight to decide whether we are going to cross the Alps or burn Rome!
Tant pis.
Finally, this post wasn't short. Who cares?
mardi 27 janvier 2009
I've made some progress on the conquistadores and the APO. I have also finished the arena for the "rois du ring" (second coat of varnish, no pictures until the deadline). The box you can see on the conquistadores picture is normally used to carry food to collective restaurants. A lot that are thrown away everyday: once recycled, it can be used to carry miniatures around and have several projects at once. When you are bored with one, you put everything in the box and grab the next one. This is better than several projects messed on the working area.

Viva Banana ! + GRAND JEU !
The two Banana Tyrants command landing craft have received some beautiful flags :
About the Perry's miniatures, I've worked a bit on the details. Shadows will be worked on, later, once the miniature have received all the first coats.
I've spent a lot of time scheduling the MDPTAPVQT which should be started against Siaba in one or two weeks (don't ask) and it has been a bit tiring. So, for a break, I ve started to paint my Foundry Conquistadores (58 infantry and a small cannon) :
BIG CONTEST !
Give one and only one prediction of the date I'll finish those conquistadores, including varnish. The one who is closest to the real date will win. You can give only one date and you can't give one that has already be given. You play only under this post. What do you win? A painted conquistadore.
